Superyachts are now a must for live entertainment. AFP VIA GETTY IMAGES

How The Rich Partied During Coronavirus Lockdown

This summer was one of sporting fixtures cancelled, concerts postponed and national borders closed, meaning little live entertainment for anyone. Except for those who could afford their own.

Over the past three to four months, the wealthy have spent millions building their own secret clubs and live music venues, and then flying in musicians and performers for their own version of live entertainment.

One Saudi Arabian flew out Afrojack, the DJ, to perform on his superyacht in Capri. It was after Ramadan, so the unnamed billionaire wanted to entertain his guests onboard, according to Emmanuel Akintunde whose GF Entertainment arranged the party.

“On the yacht is much more fun,” says Bjorn de Decker, who booked an opera singer to perform on his yacht for his wife’s birthday while cruising Sardinia’s Costa Smeralda. “Attending an opera now and just sitting there with a mask on? No thank you.”

Emmanuel Akintunde & GFE To Host the Best Parties at Monaco Grand Prix 2019

Summer brings heights of sophistication to the French Riviera where the world’s elite gather to see and be seen. This year, Monaco Grand Prix will be held from May 23rd-26th when top luxury brands compete for our attention amidst the high-octane race action.

Here, at last is an accessible glimpse into how this Mediterranean region is the perfect playbook for red carpet glamour at Cannes Film Festival and high-octane social events at one of Formula 1®’s most famous races, the Monaco Grand Prix.

Rebecca Whitlocke caught up with Emmanuel Akintunde, Co-Founder and Managing Director of GF Entertainment, about capturing imaginations at the French Riviera’s best parties.

Great expectations

Just imagine – what might the perfect charter trip or vacation on board your own yacht entail for you and your guests?

Perhaps you’d fly your friends and family to the boat by private jet one day and be perfecting your kitesurfing skills in a secluded turquoise bay with a world champion the next. Or you may be tucking into a spectacular onboard dinner of vegan “steak” prepared by your Michelin-starred chef before partying in your open-air nightclub with Drake performing on stage. And to top it all, you wouldn’t even have to pack – because your closet would be curated for you and sent ahead, and you could set off with just your passport and phone.

Gone are the simple days of sunbathing on board punctuated by dinners ashore. The past few years have seen brokers, crew and service companies raising the stakes with incredible once-in-a-lifetime opportunities.

We speak to the man who’s responsible for the best celebrity parties in the French Riviera

This year, Cannes Film Festival will be held from 14 to 25 May with a programme that will welcome the global film community to the French Riviera for film screenings, charity galas and glittering parties. Mexican director Alejandro González Iñárritu, known for critically-acclaimed films Birdman, The Revenant, Babel and 21 Grams has been named as President of the Jury for the 72nd edition of the Festival.

Internationally known, the iconic Cannes Film Festival reinvents itself each May, attracting some of the most famous faces in the world for red carpet film premieres and stylish celebrity parties such as Chopard, the amfAR Gala Cannes, De Grisogono, Fashion for Relief and superyacht parties.

Luxury Launches speaks to Emmanuel Akintunde, Co-Founder and Managing Director of GF Entertainment, in an exclusive interview about arranging top celebrity entertainment for the world’s best parties.

Charter in Asia – Fun for the Family: Yacht Style Special

The family that plays together, stays together, as the saying goes. And there are few better places for the whole family to play than while on a yacht charter, which offers something for everyone.

Kids can frolic on the water toys and hunt for pirate treasure on the beach, with the yacht’s crew creating elaborate treasure maps. Meanwhile, the adults can unwind with a massage or in the spa, while the grandparents can watch it all unfold from a comfortable seat on the shaded aft deck. There are few other holidays that cater so well to all ages.

Tamsin Priestly, a charter broker with Y.CO, says: “On a boat, you have it all. The children are entertained, the adults can relax. What most parents really want more than anything is downtime with their family. No matter how big the yacht is or what activities you get up to during the day, you’re all there together.”

Perhaps the best thing about a charter holiday is that it can be a truly unique and bespoke experience, designed to suit your family’s needs. By taking just a few details into consideration in advance, you can have the best family holiday, making memories to last a lifetime.
